Odd Bird Out
- Posted on: March 3rd, 2008 by admin
I live on a canal in a bird protected flyway zone that has many exotic birds that migrate through it, however what lives there most of the time, season after season are ducks, a few geese and one odd bird that looks nothing like the rest.
I have tried numerous times to take its picture with no avail.
This morning after my many attempts to take the bird’s picture I did, ironically I was working on this post about popularity and Internet dating and really when it comes down to it…
The Birds and The Bees.

After a bit of an online dating break I recently joined yet another Internet dating site, Nerve.com and since I have never been on Nerve.com before after plunking down my $59.04 for a three month gold membership, I joined with a hopeful gleam in my eye figuring that throwing my hat into yet another Internet dating site ring for the prospect of love would do me no harm.
Maybe I was overly optimistic.
After posting some of my honest life details mixed in with a bit of humor and four recent pictures I was hopeful, on the first day only a few men had contacted me and one of them was married, I even questioned him about his marital status and he wrote me back,
“Is that bad?”
I never responded…
With the lack of male response to my profile I decided that maybe I had written something that was turning/scaring the men away so as an experiment I deleted most of the life details on my profile and left only a few vitals, non-smoker, my height, weight and the answer to the question, favorite on- screen sex scene? My response:
That would have to be Debbie Does Dallas, I have the entire DVD collection.
I was curious to see what would happen with the less is more approach…
And how can you not like Debbie she is a classic?
As of today one hundred and thirty four men have “viewed” me. I have received six emails, four winks and have been “hot listed” a whopping six times.
I should also mention here that they have a “most popular members” feature on the site, which based on my numbers, I’m NOT popular , but in fact one doesn’t even know if the person behind their picture and profile is real?
In reality he or she could be a made-up popular person.
I told my Mom about this feature on the site and she said with a tone of utter disgust “what is it High School?” I agree, if dating is not tricky enough to put “popularity” into the mix … Well, it sort of disgusts me as well.
OK, lets be real here popular or not, the sound of crickets is alive, thriving and well on my Nerve.com Tuesday22 profile.
Am I the odd bird out here, like the strange looking bird that lives on the canal in front of my home, but like I wrote in Saturday’s post, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and at the end of the day does it really matter if you are on the most popular list or not?
I say to treat it like water off a ducks back.
Life is just too short to let Internet Dating make you feel like the Odd Bird Out or an Ugly Duckling.
