Friday’s Fashion Dating Do or Don’t? — New Years Eve Sparkles

Juliette McGough

New Years Eve is one of the few times that glitter is not only accepted, but also highly encouraged. Maybe the shimmering represents peoples hope for shiny things in the New Year. Women can hope for sparkly engagement rings, and men can hope for shiny new cars. However most Americans should be hoping for a shiny new treadmill. I know I am. My New Years Eve motto last year was “two-thousand thin” (and when you say it fast, it should sound like 2010). However it ended up turning into “two thousand tamales and brownies.” Many people have hope for a shiny new relationship as well, and New Years Eve is a great time to impress any future interests. Thursday’s Thoughts From a Bartender: New Year — New Beginnings

By Jack Elliot

Five- Four-Three-Two-One…Happy New Year! Hello 2011! Finally, a brand new, fresh year. A year that will take us all to new places and put new people in our lives. And who knows, if all goes well, 2011 could be the year that brings that certain someone into your life.

As a bartender, I definitely see a lot of singles out and about trying to meet new people and make new connections around this time of year. A time which can be tough on singles, especially because the holidays are traditionally a time when being in a relationship and having someone to spend time and celebrate with are particularly valued and accentuated. Tuesday’s Topic: How to Survive New Year’s Eve Single

By Kari DePhillips

New Year’s Eve is fast approaching. It’s a time for people to contemplate the past year’s events, both good and bad (or both – like the time you met a total hottie at the coffee shop, then wound up dumping your mocha down your skirt because you were too busy making sexy eyes). Reflections aside, New Year’s Eve is also one of the stereotypical “couple holidays.” Ugh. Click here to read more…

When I used to live in New York we used to call corny guys “Square Bears”. I am sure the term “square” is still used everywhere and holds true to the same meaning. I have been through my phases just like everyone else. I am no stranger to the ex-con, the dope boy, the silver fox, the Abercrombie kid, and the square bear. I do not discriminate. Here’s a story about when a circle meets a square. Click here to read more…

Thursday’s Thoughts From a Bartender: Mistletoe Etiquette

By Jack Elliot

So we’ve made it. It’s that time of the year again. The time of snowmen, Christmas lights, sledding, presents, hot toddies, blizzards, airport departures and arrivals, mother-in-laws, awkward sweaters, driving through a blizzard to pick up your mother-in-law and her awkward sweaters at the airport, and perhaps most importantly, mistletoe.

Ah yes, mistletoe. That strange, mysterious plant that, when hung in the right spot, can open up all sorts of romantic opportunities. And, not knowing anyone who has actually kissed a stranger or a secret crush under mistletoe, I’ve taken it upon myself to see where a few of my male customers stand on (or under) mistletoe. Tuesday’s Topic: 5 Very Unconventional Dating Sites

By Kari DePhillips

Sure, we’ve all been to OKCupid or E-Harmony and maybe had a couple of weirdos pop up from time to time. But for every general dating site on the Internet, there are many more that can get strangely specific. Here are some of the weirder dating sites online:

1. Daily Diapers. Have you ever thought about coming home from work and slipping into something a little more comfortable? Something like a diaper? The Daily Diaper offers the possibility of true love for these “adult babies,” a subculture of adults who enjoy being treated like children. This wide-ranging community includes subsets like “adult toddlers” and “diaper lovers.” Click here to read more…
